For Chad
Happy birthday dearest Chad
We miss you more than you could know.
We can never lose the bond we've had,
Though we've had to let you go.
We've missed the times we had with you,
Like going fishing on the pier;
And now we're left wondering what we'll do
When your birthday comes each year.
We're longing for the days we had
Like when we frolicked on the beach;
But those special times with you and Dad
Are so far now from our reach.
Now we celebrate your day
With memories that are so dear.
Its not been the same since you went away;
We still wish that you were here.
You're never far from our hearts;
We think of you often, with love.
Our lives will forever be torn apart
'Til we see you again, up above.

For Chad, Who Should Have Been 32 Today (9/21/2004)
How melancholy now this day when you were born--
A day we used to greet with balloons and streamers and song.
How I loved to see the smile on your face and in your eyes
As you saw the surprises we
had hidden away.
You jumped with excitement at the thought of the party to come
With all your special friends
And games and music
and prizes and fun--
And, of course, best of all,
the cake made just for you...
A golden yellow cake
frosted with chocolate;
Embellished with your name and age and all ablaze with candles;
You selected and added the
decorations and it became a masterpiece, created by you
on your own special day!
Oh, the magic of closing your eyes and making the perfect wish
That was sure to come true!
Now, the only wish
that I would ever make
Can never come to pass--
For you cannot return.
A great longing to see you
and hold you and kiss you
comes over me and,
still, after 18 years, come flashes
of memories that can never fade--
The sweetness of your smile
and voice,
The goodness of your soul.
And deep within me rises again
The hope that we will meet
once more,
In God's own time and place.
Happy birthday, my precious son!

A Heavenly Birthday Wish
Birthdays are a special day
we celebrate each year
Giving gifts is just one way
We show our love, to one so dear.
Your birthday is so different now
Since you went away.
A day that once was filled with joy
Is honored in a different way.
Instead of gifts, games & fun
Or parties with your friends,
You celebrate with Jesus
A gift of joy, that never ends.
Where you had candles,
blew them out & made a wish
Now Jesus' light eternal shines
and angels sing to you with bliss.
So while we honor you below
and remember you with love,
we wish you all the very best
For a Heavenly Birthday, up above.
